Empowerment Through Financial Literacy in Jerusalem

On May 13, Project Kesher Israel (PKI) held a financial literacy workshop in Jerusalem led by consultant Laura Lansky. The session focused on a critical but often overlooked topic: how to properly store and manage important financial documents. Under Israeli law, documents related to taxes, national insurance and other financial matters must be kept for at least seven years. This is especially important for new immigrants to Israel, who can sometimes face unexpected deductions from their accounts without clear explanations.

Lansky used humor and a supportive environment to explain how keeping proper records can help immigrants and refugees protect their rights, avoid financial losses and access available benefits. The session, part of a series of financial literacy meetings that Lansky is teaching, demystified the process of document storage and offered participants a fresh perspective on both their financial systems and themselves. Many left feeling newly confident, ready to say, “I can.”
