Meeting the Needs of Wounded Civilians in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine

Following the massive shelling of Ukraine last week—a tragedy that claimed the lives of 10 civilians and injured more than 50—Project Kesher Ukraine’s Women's Opportunity Fund (WOF-UA) sprang into action. With the financial support of The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), the WOF-UA team assembled and delivered care packages to the wounded with the goal of making their hospital stays more comfortable. The packages included hygiene kits, bedding, pillows, blankets, treats to boost morale, and power banks to ensure connectivity. A Krivyi Rih-based company provided a bus and two drivers to facilitate the delivery of these essential items, exemplifying the community’s resilience and solidarity.

Amidst Russia’s escalating attacks, Ukraine-based Vlada Nedak, CEO of WOF-UA, offers a reminder that “a morning coffee, a warm daily conversation with a colleague, or a dinner with the family are incredibly important components of our lives right now. Every kind word to those around us and joint actions save us all.” In addition, Karyn Grossman Gershon, CEO of Project Kesher in the U.S., offers that "this initiative is consistent with Jewish values because visiting the sick or injured, known as  bikur cholim in Hebrew, is a mitzvah, providing needed aid and comfort.”
