Restoring a Sense of Belonging and Optimism in Israel
Last week, Project Kesher Israel made it possible for its network of Russian-speaking immigrants and refugees to tour major academic and cultural institutions in the cities of Haifa and Dimona. The trips helped participants envision and plan for their children’s future academic and professional careers, while strengthening their feeling of belonging in Israeli society.
In Haifa, the groups visited the University of Haifa and the Pardes exhibition at the Hecht Museum. In Beer Sheva, they visited the Avraham Well, a local museum and historical destination. More study tours to other universities and colleges are planned.
Israel’s persistently high unemployment rate and wartime realities has added to the challenges faced by the women in Project Kesher Israel's network—individuals already coping with language and cultural barriers, as well as related feelings of isolation. The tours instilled a much-needed sense of optimism among participants, allowing them to imagine a bright and hopeful future both for them and their children.
