PKI LGBTQ Groups Celebrate Tu B’Av in Jerusalem

More than 70 people gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate Tu B’Av, thanks to a vibrant collaboration between Project Kesher Israel and the Jerusalem Open House.

The evening was a warm and welcoming blend of learning, music, and community spirit. Rabbi Olya Weinstein, PKI CEO, taught about the holiday’s themes of inclusion, community, and the expansion of women’s and marital rights. Michal Kireev, rabbinical student at HUC and PKI LGBTQ Jerusalem group coordinator, addressed gender-based violence and lessons from the biblical story of the “Concubine in Gibeah,” closely tied to this day. Anna Talisman, head of PKI’s LGBTQ program, spoke on the power of community-building and the importance of amplifying the voice of Israel’s Russian-speaking LGBTQ community during these challenging times.

The celebration was filled with lively music, engaging quizzes, and joyful singing—making this Tu B’Av a true expression of unity and resilience.
