Standing Up for LGBTQ Health and Safety

Last week, Anna Talisman, head of PKI’s LGBTQ support program, represented the organization at a national conference on LGBTQ+ medicine at Meir Medical Center. She addressed the realities of domestic violence within LGBTQ+ communities, from abuse in same-sex relationships and queer youth experiencing homelessness, to trans women afraid to report violence for fear of disbelief or blame.

Anna also joined a panel focused on the social security needs of LGBTQ individuals in Israel, in which she spoke about the unique hardships faced by LGBTQ+ immigrants and refugees who fled persecution in their countries of origin only to face new challenges in Israel.

“We must build responses that are inclusive, intersectional and rooted in real understanding — because equal treatment isn’t always equitable support,” she said.
