Inspiring LGBTQ Israeli Immigrants with a “Coming Out” Story

Last week, Project Kesher Israel’s LGBTQ group in Bat Yam hosted a session with special guest Lisa Guller. After immigrating to Israel 35 years ago, Lisa found herself in the country’s ultra orthodox community, living as a haredi while raising a family, all while she quietly identified as a lesbian. For 26 years, she lived a life shaped by her community’s narrow expectations before embarking a new journey allowing her to be “out,” free and happy.

Lisa’s story resonated with PKI’s network, new immigrants who themselves identify as LGBTQ and are encountering similar struggles as they adjust to their new lives in Israel. The attendees were both moved and inspired, finding hope in Lisa’s happy ending and all things possible.
