Learning About Freedom and Exodus
In the week leading up to Passover, Project Kesher Israel (PKI) participants explored the themes of freedom and exodus through a powerful historical lens. PKI intern and rabbinical student Michal Kireev led a thought-provoking session on the courageous women of the former Soviet Union who, despite government repression in the 1960s and ’70s, fought for the right to immigrate to Israel.
These women, part of the broader refusenik group who were denied permission to emigrate, risked their lives to pursue freedom and live according to their beliefs. Michal highlighted archival material from that era and invited participants to reflect on its relevance today, drawing a meaningful connection between ancient and modern struggles for liberation.
