Exploring Hebrew Literature Through a Feminist Lens

As part of PKI’s cultural integration programming, feminist activist Nadya Aizner, PhD candidate in Hebrew Literature at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, led a series of sessions introducing new immigrant women to Hebrew literature through a feminist perspective.

This meeting focused on female protagonists in the works of renowned Israeli author Amos Oz, including My Michael, The Black Box, and A Tale of Love and Darkness. Through guided discussion, participants explored the parallels between Oz’s literary heroines and the early years of the Israeli state—between the personal and the national, hope and despair. The session also examined representations of women within modernist and postmodernist Israeli literature.

Engaging with local literature and art is a vital step in cultural integration, offering participants a deeper understanding of Israeli society and its evolving identity.
