Embracing the Light: A Heartfelt Hanukkah Celebration
This past Friday, the PKI community, including the Project Kesher US board chair Barbara Glickstein, gathered for a joyful celebration of Hanukkah — a festival that not only lights up our homes but also shines a spotlight on the extraordinary women who have shaped our history. The event featured Ksenia Svetlova and Rabbi PhD Alona Lisita, two inspiring lecturers, and drew over 200 participants.
The discussions centered on the oft-overlooked heroines of Hanukkah. While this holiday is traditionally remembered as a time to celebrate the victories of men, Rabbi Alona shifted the narrative, reminding us that the real stories of courage and resilience are often those of women. Ksenia shed light on the struggles of women today in the Middle East, particularly in Syria, addressing the urgent need for awareness and action regarding their plight.
Beyond the gathering, PKI also offered Hanukkah art classes in Petach Tikva and Bat Yam. These workshops were not only about drawing and painting the symbols of Hanukkah; they became a therapeutic space for participants to process emotions and connect with one another. For many, art serves as a bridge, allowing us to let light in amidst the darkness.
As PKI’s community navigates the challenges of the ongoing war, events like these remind us of the importance of gathering, sharing, and fostering meaningful connections. Emotional wellness transcends therapy; it flourishes through community and togetherness.
