Purim Masks and Cultural Connections

On March 20th, just days before Purim, women from Project Kesher Ukraine convened online for a highly engaging and timely event. It featured Mikhal Stamova, a renowned expert in Jewish history, culture, and traditions, and Marina Lapa, a talented designer known for her Venetian masks. Together Mikhal and Marina discussed the cultural connections between commedia dell'arte and Purim spiel. Attendees were treated to a showcase of Marina's beautiful masks, inspired by Jewish and Ukrainian themes. They also discussed the psychology of masking—what lies hidden behind and what can be revealed—and offered practical tips on crafting Purim masks by hand, adding a creative touch to the event.

In addition, Project Kesher’s Chairperson of the Board of Directors Barbara Glickstein traveled to Israel and had the privilege of joining Project Kesher Israel’s Purim celebrations. See highlights from the event here.
