Restoring Essential Services in Odesa
This week, the Southern Ukrainian city of Odesa suffered its latest brutal onslaught. A drone attack early Saturday killed 12 civilians, including five children—part of Russia’s relentless bombing campaign leaving residents reeling with fear and anger.
To help restore a sense of hope and best ensure essential services remain operational, The Women’s Opportunity Fund, a program of Project Kesher Ukraine, has delivered several generators to the city in an act of solidarity.
Natalia Zhukova—a deputy of the Odesa City Council, store owner and grantee of the fund—thanked the organization, saying, “In these tough times, it is very important to feel constant support from our partners. Despite the fact that this winter the Ukrainian energy system coped better with the consequences of enemy shelling, it is still too early to relax. Our joint task is to provide city educational institution with a generator in case of power outages.”
Amidst the chaos, individuals like Natalia continue to uphold the promise of a free, inclusive, future Ukraine. Despite the recent tragedy, she completed the installation of a ramp near her store, allowing better access to those with mobility issues, and contributing to the resilience of the Ukrainian economy.
