Helping Israeli Immigrants Understand the Kibbutz Movement

Last week, PKI convened members of its network for a thought-provoking lecture and discussion on Israel’s kibbutz movement, a new topic for the recent Israeli immigrants. Led by Nadya Aizner, Ph.D., a long-time PKI keynote speaker and expert in Hebrew literature, the session examined the role of women as individuals and mothers during the movement, the kibbutz model of parenthood, its ideological foundations, and its impact on feminism and gender equality in Israeli society. It further highlighted how Israeli novels and poetry reflected these themes, offering a rich cultural context.

Together with Dr. Aizner, the participants explored the benefits and challenges of this unique social experiment, discussing why its approach to parenthood proved unsustainable for future generations. The dialogue left attendees inspired and eager to continue exploring these historical narratives, helping them further integrate into Israeli society.
