Our Work in Ukraine
With 28 years of experience in Ukraine, the Project Kesher network is mobilizing globally to support Ukrainian women and families. The Project Kesher Ukraine staff is on the ground either sheltering in place or traveling in search of safety. Project Kesher Ukraine activists have crossed into other countries in Europe, many with children and elderly family members depending on them.
Since the start of the war, Project Kesher Ukraine has provided cash grants to 300 individual Ukrainian women, who are heads of multigenerational households, giving $100,000 to displaced Ukrainian families.
Displaced women across Europe are reporting a lack of access to medical professionals when needed. Many clinics are taking at least a month to see new patients and women who are dealing with stress, domestic violence, unplanned pregnancy or injuries sustained during war, need faster help. PK Ukraine leaders are negotiating with a number of clinics in cities where Ukrainian refugees are gathering to help subsidize immediate medical care for women.
PK Ukraine is delivering baby food, hygiene products, and baby care items and providing financial aid to new mothers.
PK Israel has supported 160+ Ukrainian immigrants and refugees from the LGBTQ+ community. As same-sex marriage was not recognized in Ukraine, many couples are unable to register as a family while applying for immigration to Israel, causing many individuals to be unable to gain citizenship or stay in Israel with their loved ones and children.
PK Israel is welcoming hundreds of Ukrainian refugees into their community. PKI is supporting four weekly emotional support groups as well as programs on Jewish education, women's leadership, and feminism.
PK Ukraine has started to make community initiative grants. The first grant approved purchased 2 washer and dryer sets, to be used at a school that is housing hundreds of refugees in western Ukraine. Until now, the mothers have been washing kids clothes and their own clothes in sinks. This grant will provide clean clothes for hundreds of refugees.
