PKI Brings Together LGBTQ and Women Groups for Film Screening and Discussion
Last week marked a milestone for Project Kesher Israel (PKI) as its Jerusalem women’s and LGBTQ groups came together for the first time to watch and discuss the acclaimed documentary You, My Love by Ilil Alexander. The film, which explores the hidden lives of ultra-Orthodox women navigating their queer identities in closed religious communities, opened a powerful space for dialogue around faith, authenticity and the complexities of coming out.
The event featured a thoughtful panel discussion with Nadya Aizner, an LGBTQ Orthodox activist; Anna Talisman, MSW, head of PKI’s LGBTQ program; and Rabbi Olya Weinstein, CEO of PKI. Moderated by Michal Kireev, PKI Jerusalem LGBTQ group coordinator, the conversation touched on themes of personal legitimacy, parental responsibility and the emotional toll of choosing between religious life and queer identity. The evening stood out not only for its powerful content but for the mutual respect, curiosity and solidarity shared across both groups.
