Ukrainian Women Leaders Celebrate Rosh Hashanah

This September, participants of Women Leaders: The Next Generation, a PKU Jewish leadership course supported by UJA Federation of New York, organized Rosh Hashanah celebrations in eight Ukrainian cities with 185 participants.

Each event combined Jewish tradition, women’s leadership, and creativity. In Slavske, women created a collective mosaic symbolizing unity; in Odesa, they explored renewal through art therapy; and in Kharkiv, they braided traditional round challahs. In Kyiv, “Shofar in Silence: Rosh Hashanah at Babyn Yar” offered a moment of remembrance and reflection.

Together, these gatherings became spaces of connection, learning, and empowerment — showing how Ukrainian Jewish women continue to honor their heritage and strengthen their communities, even in challenging times.
