WOF-UA Kicks Off Campaign to Procure Laptops for Ukraine Women
In July, WOF-UA launched its new initiative providing Ukrainian women with laptops and training on how to use them, helping them pursue professional endeavors remotely during their children’s forthcoming school year.
The campaign reflects that when schooling begins again in Ukraine, many mothers will give their children the only digital devices their families own, a requirement to attend school, which has overwhelmingly become remote since the onset of the war. As a result, these women will not be able to participate in the country’s remote labor market, making it more challenging for them to earn vital income for their families while staying safe amidst Russia’s increasingly aggressive attacks on civilian targets. This fall a cohort of 80 Jewish women will start the program funded through a grant from UJA - Federation of New York. This will be followed by a cohort of 250 women who will receive training on refurbished laptops from a new donor - more info in the coming weeks!
Yana, one of the project participants, shared: ‘My family and I are from the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol. The full-scale Russian invasion destroyed everything, including our house and successful business. I have three wonderful children - two teenagers and a baby, who is only 4 months old. We left home with just our documents, a change of clothes, and our pets. With WOF-UA’s help, we’ve started over. The project has provided me with the opportunity to stay online, learn, develop, work remotely as a manager, and most importantly – earn money for my family. This guarantees my independence. Thank you so much!”
