WOF-UA Responds to Ukraine’s Severe Energy Crisis After Recent Attacks
In response to an urgent request from the Regional Association of Territorial Communities of Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region and the International Volunteer Fund ‘4UA,’ Project Kesher Ukraine’s Women’s Opportunity Fund (WOF-UA) has transferred a 5 kW generator to a hospital in Mykolaiv to ensure uninterrupted healthcare for the community amidst Russia’s ongoing attacks.
Ukraine has lost approximately 9 gigawatts of generating capacity due to the last seven Russian attacks on its energy facilities, a loss equivalent to the energy consumption of the Netherlands over three months or the combined consumption of Slovakia and the Baltic countries. As winter approaches, this situation presents a significant challenge for the country, which has already transitioned to a strict energy-saving mode. The destruction of energy infrastructure has led to prolonged power outages, with rolling blackouts limiting energy supply to just 4-8 hours a day.
With its valued partners, WOF-UA has purchased and delivered more than 300 generators since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war along with other emergency supplies and gendered humanitarian aid. We continue to provide real-time, on-the-ground help when unmet needs arise.
