Double Support for Young Moms: Psychological and Humanitarian Assistance through ‘Mom for Mom’ Project
With Ukraine’s constant threat of shelling, young mothers have to deal with anxiety every time they leave their homes. They fear for themselves, their sons and daughters, and their husbands fighting in the Armed Forces. Stress has come to dominate their everyday lives, necessitating that they receive psycho-emotional support as well as humanitarian aid.
In recognition of this, the Project Kesher Ukraine 'Mom for Mom' project supports young mothers. It has made remote counseling services available; delivered hygiene kits with items like diapers, creams, wipes, toothpaste and baby food; and established a warm online community to help young mothers tap into their internal resources, increase their self-confidence, and strengthen relationships with their loved ones.
Attendees have had positive feedback. One mother (Anna) says, “ I noticed improvements in relationships in my family. Thanks to the psychologist's advice, I realized the need to take care of myself. I also convinced my sister to join, and she loved it too!” Another participant (Anastasia) says she is “Grateful to the 'Mom for Mom' project! These are always interesting projects, initiatives, speakers, contests, as well as useful and necessary presents for our children!”
With its history of supporting women in conflict zones, Project Kesher knows that women need gendered assistance in wartime, including services that support their mental health and help them stay strong for themselves and their families.
