Meet Project Kesher Israel’s Sofya Akselrod
Sofya Akselrod, Project Kesher Israel’s Women’s Group Coordinator in Ramat Gan, is a beloved educator whose career spans teaching, curriculum development and community leadership. With expertise in early childhood reading and child psychology, Sofya has been a transformative figure in Jewish education for decades. In St. Petersburg, she served as the lead educational professional at the Adain Lo Jewish Community and as a curator for the global Jewish literacy organization PJ Library curator. Here she developed impactful Jewish programs, trained hundreds of educators and supported Jewish families throughout the region.
After immigrating to Israel more than two years ago, Sofya helped found a kindergarten in Ramat Gan, “Lama Gan,” where Sofya's educational philosophy has taken root, serving children and families with a commitment to Jewish values and a nurturing environment. This kindergarten, which brings joy and a sense of continuity to many former students and colleagues, is a testament to Sofya’s lasting impact.
Upon joining Project Kesher Israel, Sofya quickly became an invaluable member of the community. Her leadership within the women’s group has cultivated a vibrant, supportive environment at Lama Gan, where she continues to inspire new generations. Sofya’s dedication and skill are integral to the growth of the organization’s partnership with Ramat Gan, and her passion for Jewish education and community-building shines in everything she does.
