When is a Laptop more than a Laptop

During wartime, a laptop can be the only way for a child to continue her education and stay connected to the world. Recently, WOF-UA presented a new laptop to a fifteen year old girl named Mariia, who is a survivor of domestic violence. WOF-UA heard her story at a recent forum in Kryvyi Rih called, “Zero Tolerance for Violence.” Her mother has since lost custody of her. Mariia is passionate about programming, web design, videography, and photography and dreams of becoming a theater director. WOF-UA hopes this small investment in her future lets her know that people care and will invest in her dreams.

WOF-UA has partnered with LABA business school on a new course for Ukrainian women. The current track has 30 spots for those reassessing job options after maternity leave, restarting their careers after wartime setbacks, and launching their own businesses. The fund has provided a laptop for one of the students, Daria, a foreign language teacher from Vinnytsia city, who has had major health struggles for the past three years. She planned to take the course on her phone due to financial constraints, but will now participate by laptop.
