16 Days Of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

The 2019 '16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence' campaign has come to an end. 20 years ago, Project Kesher Russia brought the global campaign to the region for the first time but never has it felt more relevant, as Russian women advocate to decriminalize domestic violence in their country. As activist participation in the campaign grows each year, the work becomes more sophisticated, and the reach expands. This year's theme was #DONTKEEPSILENT

Highlights of the campaign:

  • 2000 people throughout 49 cities in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus took part in 57 unique social action programs to combat gender violence.

  • 118 partner organizations engaged in the campaign including Jewish, secular, and faith-based NGOs, academic and educational institutions, and law enforcement agencies.

  • 33,000 people were reached through publications, blogs, posts, videos, and articles on prevention and combating violence.

  • 14 trainings for 100+ youth and teens focused on healthy relationships, consent, signs of dating violence, and resources for information and help.

  • Two large-scale public campaigns were held in shopping malls of Krivoy Rog, Ukraine, and Astrakhan, Russia. In Ukraine, the PKU Director was joined by some PKU young leaders and the local police department in raising awareness of the resources available to help families in crisis.
