Creating an Israel-based Russian- and Ukrainian-Language Library
In a powerful act of community building, PKI has partnered with the Jerusalem-based LGBTQ nonprofit Open House to create a library of books in Russian and Ukrainian that reflect feminist, egalitarian Jewish and queer perspectives. The initiative is intended to support LGBTQ immigrants who have fled war and homophobia for the refuge of Israel, providing them access to literary and academic works in their native languages.
To build the new library, PKI and Jerusalem Open House are purchasing new and used books and accepting donations. Once a meaningful collection is acquired, the organizations plan to launch a book club, bringing together individuals who share a love for the written word.
