PKU Meets with the Commissioner for the Protection of State Language
Vlada Nedak, PKU CEO, recently met with Olena Ivanovska, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language in Ukraine, to discuss collaboration on educational and cultural initiatives and the importance of making Jewish communal materials available in Ukrainian.
Commissioner Ivanovska emphasized the essential role of civic organizations in developing Ukrainian-language materials for diverse members of Ukrainian society and expressed readiness for future cooperation.
Vlada Nedak noted that PKU supports initiatives that strengthen civil society, cultural integration, and women’s leadership — with the Ukrainian language as a vital part of that mission. To date, PKU has created a Ukrainian language Haggadah, produces annual Ukrainian language Jewish calendars, and has a Ukrainian language Siddur underway.
“Translating prayers and rituals into Ukrainian affirms a civic stance,” said Commissioner Ivanovska. “Preserving traditions while speaking the language of unity, freedom, and independence helps build a strong society where everyone can cherish their culture as part of the Ukrainian family.”
