PKI Holds First Meeting of LGBTQ Immigrant Group

Project Kesher Israel (PKI) proudly convened the first meeting of its official LGBTQ group in Tel Aviv. In attendance were 25 participants, all recent immigrants to Israel. Our PKI Executive Director Rabbi Olya Weinstein kicked off the event, welcoming attendees, introducing PKI and discussing the legal support it provides to LGBTQ refugees and immigrants. She also introduced PKI social worker Anna Talisman, who spoke about the emotional help available for those journeying to Israel under these challenging circumstances. The group also watched a film about the experiences of LGBTQ youth in Russian-speaking families in Israel. In attendance was the filmmaker—Vic Uchitel—who joined us for a meaningful dialogue.

The work PKI is championing on behalf of Israel’s immigrant LGBTQ community represents some of the most singular and important efforts in our organization’s more than 30-year history and is helping Israeli society make strides toward becoming more inclusive and welcoming.
