"I
can now tell you a great deal about my people, my
faith, religious tolerance, and even about self-defense
but most of all, my relationship with my mother has improved."
- Graduate of Mother daughter retreat class of 2006
For over ten years, Project Kesher's
annual Mother-Daughter Retreats have brought together more
than 150 mother-daughter pairs for 4- day seminars covering:
- Jewish education and text study;
- communication skills;
- social activism; and
- the creative arts.
A recent 10-year survey of past participants demonstrates
that this program has been a powerful catalyst for Jewish
renewal, and for developing a new generation of Jewish
and community leaders.
Dozens of graduates have started Jewish grassroots Jewish
community programs to meet their own needs. Dozens more
now work for the Jewish community in paid or volunteer
capacities. Many in the second generation have gone on
to study Judaism and Hebrew and marry Jews.
This project currently has a waiting
list of three to four mother-daughter pairs for each
pair that is accepted.
